From Pittwater to the Pacific: Northern Beaches Credit Union making waves for CUFA

By Keira Morris-Akeroyd

No stranger to supporting the local community, Northern Beaches Credit Union (NBCU) recently extended their reach, as they threw their support behind CUFA at the Manly Cole Classic and Sun Run. We here at CUFA want to say a big thank you to NBCU for helping us to make the event a success.

As thousands descended upon Manly Beach for a weekend of fitness and fun, the local credit union partnered with CUFA to promote our adventure challenges, which aim to raise much needed funds for people living in extreme poverty across the Asia-Pacific.

Across the Asia Pacific  CUFA works to alleviate poverty through economic empowerment and financial inclusion, something NBCU’s David Thomas wholeheartedly supports.

“NBCU, as a credit union, has its roots in developing and working with those in need in our local neighbourhood. This is a very close alignment with CUFA, albeit on a global scale.”

Exhibiting over three days, CUFA provided information and took registrations for our adventure challenges, which include ‘Kayak Fiji’ and ‘Cycle Cambodia.’ The challenges are open to people of all ages and offer participants the chance to go on the adventure of a lifetime while raising money for a great cause.

The challenges, which are currently open for registration, are a great way for people to explore the road less travelled, while getting fit, meeting new people and making a difference.

David says he was excited to bring the opportunity to the Sun Run and Cole Classic participants and hoped it would inspire people to get involved.

“I hope it provides some inspiration. It’s a worthwhile and rewarding challenge that all participants may not have had the opportunity to think about.”

Thanks again to David and the entire NBCU staff as well our our volunteers Marianne, Simone and Fiona for helping CUFA to make waves in Manly.
