This year’s ASL charity golf day attracted 80 enthusiastic participants to the Nation’s Capital, their talent overshadowed only by their generosity, with the day raising an incredible $19,000 for CUFA’s international projects.
Held at the picturesque Murrumbidgee Country Club, ASL’s Chief Executive Officer, David Jay, and his team organised a seamless and fun-filled event. Beginning with bacon and egg rolls, the day ended with a lively charity auction that raised significant funds, not only for CUFA but for BackTrack and Sands as well.
What came in between, however, was the golf. As the participants teed off in the cool morning air, the crowd struggled to pick up their collectively dropped jaws as CUFA’s representatives, both first-time golfers, hit eagle after eagle in a stunning display of what can only be described as incredible golfing finesse (read: air swing after air swing in a stunning display of absolute golfing inadequacy).
Although no Annika Sorenstam or Tiger Woods, the CUFA team managed to improve throughout the day under the tutelage of other supportive participants. This support would be extended to the charity auction in the afternoon, where bidding wars for Ricky Martin tickets, fine reds and power suits with paywave capability would end up driving up the incredible fundraising total.
CUFA would like to thank David Jay and the entire ASL team, the participants, and the auction winners for their time and generosity. CUFA would also like to thank The Community Mutual Group, Summerland Credit Union and The Capricornian who presented CUFA with a generous donation, taking the fundraising and donation total to $23,000.
The funds raised from the day will go towards projects in Cambodia, Timor-Leste and the Pacific that aim to empower people to lift themselves out of poverty. The support of ASL helps to ensure that CUFA can provide financial education to those living in some of the most disadvantaged communities in the world, ultimately empowering them to break free from the poverty cycle.
