Then the CUFA Leadership Challenges are for you. Over the last seven years the Challenge program has provided vital funds to CUFA’s projects in the Asia Pacific region, changed the lives of participants and the communities they visit and have given a tangible outlet for corporate engagement.
We are excited for the 2014 Challenge series that will see everyday people test themselves physically, emotionally and culturally and be rewarded with an unforgettable experience that they can take into their personal and professional lives.
Having fundraised $3300, a 60km kayak in Fiji or tackled a 300km cycle in Cambodia, been immersed in a completely different culture, engaged with locals, and volunteered their time and skills upon return to Australian in their own local community – Challengers are changed. They become aware of their own capacity to affect change and now own a plethora of new skills in organisation, time management, motivation, teamwork, empathy, tenacity and leadership.
In 2014 the Fijian Leadership Challenge will run in May. Fijian Leadership Challengers will visit the most isolated and impoverished parts of the Fiji nation. Kayaking through 60kms of pristine blue water, the opportunity to snorkel with manta rays and experience another side to Fiji, away from the tourist mainland. Challengers will engage in projects while on the islands and engage with local families and children and make a difference.
The Cambodian Leadership Challenge will run in July, cycling 300kms from Siem Reap to Battambang where Challengers will have a chance to see our Children’s Financial Literacy (CFL) project in action, engage with Village Entrepreneurs who have started their own businesses thanks to Australian donations and be bewildered by the communities doing so much with so little.
One of our 2014 Cambodian Challengers, Vicki Hunter, has already started fundraising, cycling for eight hours in her Lismore branch of Summerland Credit Union on Thursday 7 November. Her ride was a complete success, raising funds for the Children’s Financial Literacy program that teaches more than 12,000 children the importance of saving and managing money and helping empower them to break out of the poverty cycle. Not to mention the buzz that Vicki created in Lismore, with crowds forming outside of Summerland Credit Union’s window. With these funds Vicki is well over her target of the $3300 and with the Challenge still eight months away, we can’t wait to see what Vicki has install next.
